Winsford is one of the prettiest villages in the Exmoor National Park. Deer and wild ponies roam the moor above. Many birds live along the River Exe which winds through the village (a neighbour has counted 41 species).

Winsford has a village green, thatched cottages and the famous Royal Oak Inn, dating from the 12th Century. There is a thriving village shop/post office, and the old school house has become a user-friendly, community computer centre with internet.

Winsford is 6 miles from Dulverton, the nearest shopping centre, and 14 miles from Minehead and the sea. It is an ideal centre for exploring Exmoor on foot or in the car, and there are opportunities for horse riding and fishing too.

"Fragrant, cool, grey green - immemorial peace - second to no English village in beauty, running waters, stone thatched cottages, hoary church tower" (WH Hudson 1909).
